El American’s Idiocy of the Week has starred the buttocks of Rhode Island State Senator Tiara Mack, of course, a Democrat.
In an unusual video posted on her official government TikTok account, we got to see Mack on the beach handstanding and twerking. She posted the video on the 4th of July holiday, but it probably would have been more appropriate for Thanksgiving.
After 6 seconds, which feel like eternal visual torture, the senator asks for the vote for her re-election for Rhode Island’s District 6. During election campaigns, we are somehow used to seeing geeks trying to draw attention to their candidacy, but that this woman — whatever that is to a progressive — has been an elected official for over a year, gives us a lot to think about the state of politics in general, and the Democratic Party in particular.
Many times novels or films such as 1984 or Brave New World are used as examples of visionary and prescient dystopias, but after what we have seen, the film that has been most successful in describing what we are living today is Idiocracy.
Apart from her exotic talents as a dancer and contortionist, the other merits that Tiara Mack boasts — and for which the Democratic Party supports her — are those of having been the first black and queer senator from Rhode Island. Quite an accomplishment.
Of course, according to her and her followers — which she has — the criticism of her twerking video is due to her being black and queer, and not because of the trashy nature of her electoral marketing strategy. It is clear that if a white and heterosexual politician — let’s say, Nancy Pelosi — had done the same, no one would have criticized her (I apologize to those who have imagined it and now cannot get such a picture out of their heads.)
It seems that Tiara Mack’s victimhood has gone to her head. Perhaps because of her preferred stance.
Idiocy of the Week: Tiara Mack’s greatest hits before twerking
One might wonder if there’s more behind this viral campaign. Maybe this superficial and rude video hides behind it an excellent professional performance of Tiara Mack, which we could discover thanks to this advertising resource, and then be ashamed for having misjudged her. Let’s see.
Well, no. Her merits, according to her, are limited to having been the MVP in a game when she was in college, and having presented more than 10 legislative proposals — all rejected by the Rhode Island Senate, I wonder why.
Among her rejected proposals was one on “queer education,” which would provide students with “comprehensive, queer inclusive, pleasure-based sex education.” We don’t know if beach twerking was included in the curriculum, but Tiara Mack did sound enthusiastic about kids being told about masturbation, oral sex and anal sex.
If Tiara Mack gets re-elected and ends up getting some proposal like this passed, maybe her infamous video will have a second use as a pedagogical resource for these sex education classes, who knows.
For now, it enters headfirst and through the big door — through the small one it doesn’t fit — into the video library archive of El American’s Idiocy of the Week award winners.
