At least thirteen people were killed, seven of them minors, in a shooting at a school in Izhevsk, a city at the foothills of the Urals, according to the Russian Committee of Instruction.

“According to preliminary data, that crime took the lives of thirteen people, six adults and seven children,” the agency says in a statement posted on its website.

The statement adds that 14 other minors and seven adults were injured.

Previously, the Instruction Committee had reported at least nine deaths and several injuries as a result of the incident.

The head of the capital of the Russian republic of Udmurtia, Alexandr Brechalov, previously wrote on Telegram that “a tragedy had occurred in Izhevsk, in school number 88.”

“An unidentified person entered the school, killed a guard. There are victims among children and wounded,” he said.

Brechálov, who immediately went to the scene of the incident, stated that the shooter has committed suicide.

This was also confirmed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian republic, which reported that the body of the attacker had been found.

Subsequently, it was learned that two school guards and at least two teachers were killed in the attack.

The attacker, according to the authorities, was armed with two guns converted to shoot with lethal ammunition.

The word “hate”, written in red ink, can be read on the magazines of the gun, images of which were broadcast in the media.

Udmurtia declared mourning for the victims of the attack on the school, which will last until September 29th.

According to Russian media, about a thousand students study in school 88 in Izhevsk, located a few feet away from the city administration.
