THREE CHILDREN, including a baby, were found dead last night at the water’s edge on the beach of Coney Island, New York, reported the NYPD, which at the moment does not know the reasons for their death, although some indications point to the mother.

The children were 7 and 4 years old, plus a three-and-a-half month-old baby, and had disappeared hours earlier with their mother, who was found alive elsewhere on the beach and taken to the police station, although she is not in custody, the police spokesman told reporters this morning.

The police activated their alerts when they received a call from a person at 1.40 a.m. (5.40 GMT) saying he had suspicions that a woman, a relative of his in her 30s, may have harmed his children; later, the children’s father, also questioned, told them he believed the mother had taken them to Coney Island.

The search lasted an hour and a half until the woman washed up on the beach, soaked and barefoot, but gave no information about the whereabouts of her three children.

It was much later, at around 4:40 a.m., when the bodies of the three children appeared in another place far from there, and although the police performed the usual resuscitation maneuvers, they could not help them.

The nationality of the woman and the children is unknown, as well as any other details. The police have asked for the collaboration of anyone who may have seen or heard anything, promising confidentiality to anyone who provides any information that may help to clarify the facts.
