Since Joe Biden assumed the presidency of the United States, he has not been able to recover from multiple crises generated by his own policies. The record increase of illegal immigrants, the improvised withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, the agreements behind the backs of countries such as France, and now, the mandatory vaccination mandates, have become a bad omen for the remainder of the Democratic administration.

The latest crisis generated by Biden himself arose from the mandatory Covid-19 vaccination mandate. Protests, resignations and a barrage of lawsuits are mounting against his administration, generating even more discontent against the president’s policies.

In December 2020 Biden went so far as to say he would not enact a vaccine mandate. “I don’t think it should be mandatory,” he said at a press conference in Delaware. Yet less than a year later he is breaking his word.

Biden’s new mandates require all federal employees and contractors to be vaccinated, with no opt-out option for testing, so those who work for the government will not have a choice.

Increased resignations due to mandatory vaccination

The sweeping rules in the wake of the pandemic completely changed the way Americans live, to the point where they are prevented from attending restaurants, social events and schools if they do not prove they are vaccinated, or worse, may lose their jobs for not being immunized.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll last month found that 35 % of workers said they would request a medical exam or religious exemption and 72 % of them said they would quit if exemptions were not allowed for choosing not to vaccinate.

Workforce shortages

All indications are that the mandatory vaccination mandate from Biden and Democratic governors could lead to staffing shortages in state agencies. The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) announced possible workforce shortages and warned that it will have 20 % fewer staff units to handle calls as many members decided to resign due to the mandatory vaccination mandate.

According to the New York Post, it is estimated that 6,000 police officers remain unvaccinated and if they do not get their shots by the deadline, they could be fired.

Unions representing both departments have filed separate lawsuits against New York City, led by Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio.

“YYou’re going to see dozens and dozens of firehouses closed. You’re going to see response times climb. It is inevitable. Lives are going to be lost. That is irrefutable,” said FDNY Firefighters Association President Andrew Ansbro.

A Los Angeles Times report revealed that the Seattle Police Department had to send detectives and officers to respond to emergency calls due to a shortage of patrolmen.

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles County, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said he will not force his 18,000 employees to get vaccinated despite the mandate. “I don’t want to be in a position to lose 5% or 10% of my workforce overnight over a vaccine mandate,” he said.

Widespread demonstrations

But police and firefighters in New York are not the only ones who have warned of a crisis. Thousands of teachers have also joined protests against the vaccination mandate.

“I have the final say!”, “Last year’s heroes, this year unemployed,” “My body, my choice,” and “I call the shots,” were read on signs during the teachers’ protests against the decree.

“I should be able to make my own health decisions and make a decision that doesn’t affect my employment that doesn’t affect my right to go to a restaurant, or a Broadway play, a museum,” Amy Carroll a retired teacher told PIX11.

Both Teachers for Choice and Staten Island attorneys Mark Fonte and Louis Gelormino sued the city, the Department of Education (DOE) and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) over the vaccine mandate.

This Monday, October 25, in New York City, a massive protest against the vaccination mandate took place. Protesters shouted “F*ck Joe Biden” as they marched.

Incoming lawsuits

Arizona became the first state to sue the Biden administration after considering the vaccine mandate as “unconstitutional.”

Also, this Thursday, October 28, it was learned that the state of Florida is suing Biden, NASA and several state officials over mandatory vaccines.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody and Governor Ron DeSantis filed the lawsuit arguing that NASA and others “frequently contract with Florida” and are “attempting to impose illegal requirements” on the state.

“Because the government’s unlawful vaccine requirement seeks to interfere with Florida’s employment policies and threaten Florida with economic harm and the loss of federal contracts, the State seeks relief from this Court,” the lawsuit states.

In the lawsuit, Florida argues that, if left unchallenged, federal vaccine requirements would force the state to require vaccination of certain state officials, since the state contracts with entities that also contract with the federal government.

In addition to the Florida lawsuit and those previously mentioned by teachers’ unions, U.S. military, federal employees, and civilian contractors have joined in a class-action lawsuit against Joe Biden, the Department of Defense and Homeland Security.

Liberty Counsel, the Christian law firm that filed the suit, points out that the plaintiffs “face a deadline under the Federal Covid-19 Vaccine Mandate” to receive the doses and believe the presidential order violates their religious beliefs.

“The Biden administration has no authority to require the COVID shots for the military or for federal employees or civilian contractors. Nor can the Biden administration pretend that the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act and the First Amendment do not apply to its unlawful mandates. The Commander-in-Chief must end this shameful treatment and abuse of our brave military heroes. Forcing the COVID shots without consent or consideration for their sincere religious beliefs is illegal,” Liberty Counsel founder and president Mathew Staver said in a statement.

While immunization is necessary to reduce mortality, lessen symptoms and prevent the emergence of new variants, the new impositions infringe on the free will and freedom of each individual, especially since vaccination does not completely prevent cases of contagion.
