600 Migrants ‘Rescued’ from Mexican Trailers Heading to U.S., Including Haitians and Indians

Mexico’s National Immigration Institute reported on Saturday that Mexican authorities rescued 600 migrants who were traveling in trailers. The event occurred in the state of Veracruz.

“There are 145 women and 455 men immigrants from 12 countries, including countries in the region, but also from Africa, India and Bangladesh,” the institute said in a statement.

In the group rescued there are 401 (107 women and 294 men) originating from Guatemala; 53 (36 men and 17 women) from Honduras; 27 (19 men and 8 women) from Nicaragua; 8 (five men and 3 women) from Cuba; 18 (four women and 14 men) from El Salvador; four (one woman and three men) from Venezuela.

In addition, 37 men from Bangladesh; four men from Ecuador; six men from Ghana; one man from India; five women and 35 men from the Dominican Republic; one man from Cameroon.

Administrative procedure for immigrants

The authorities explained that the migratory administrative procedure is carried out with attachment and respect for the rights of people in the context of mobility.

“And the child protection agencies are notified in the case of family nuclei or single minors, about the presence and condition of stay of this population in Mexican territory,” said the agency.

In each case “their assisted return or alternatives for a regularization procedure are determined.”
