Vaccination of NBA players has already reached 95 % and the Houston Rockets have their entire team immunized.
The vaccination process has been increasing as work began at training camps for the 30 NBA teams that will begin the 2021-2022 season, which will mark the 75th anniversary of the NBA’s birth.
The increase includes players who have received a vaccination.
Unvaccinated players may suffer salary losses for games they are unable to play in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York due to municipal mandates that are in place.
Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving, and Washington Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal and Golden State Warriors Canadian forward Andrew Wiggins remain unvaccinated.
Prior to the opening of training camps this week, the NBA had approximately 90 % of its players vaccinated.
The NBA and the Players Association agreed to strict policies for unvaccinated players this season.
The protocols will require unvaccinated players to be under many of the same restrictions as those that prevailed for much of last season, before the covid-19 vaccine became available.
Vaccinated players, on the other hand, will have fewer restrictions.
For example, all fully vaccinated players, as well as Level 1 personnel (coaches and anyone else who regularly works within five meters of players and referees) will not have to undergo daily testing.
Teams have also been instructed that their seating arrangements must prevent players who are not fully vaccinated from sitting together.
However, they will maintain controversial policies, such as the fact that vaccinated players will still have to wear face masks in team facilities and when traveling.
Players who are prevented from playing will not receive salary payments for the games they miss.
