Media Declares Katie Hobbs Winner in Arizona Governor’s Race

Democratic candidate and current Secretary of State Katie Hobbs has been declared the winner of the Arizona state gubernatorial race over Republican candidate Kari Lake.

NBC News reported late Monday night that Katie Hobbs was projected to win the race over Kari Lake in Arizona. Hobbs’ victory is key for Democrats heading into the presidential race.

NBC said that a record number of early ballots had been turned in on Election Day in Maricopa County, according to officials, so they had to be processed in a more intensive manner that included verifying signatures: “Maricopa County, the state’s most populous county, estimated its count was 94 percent complete after receiving an all-time record 290,000 early ballots on Election Day,” the media outlet said.

The race, however, leaves many doubts because the result was delayed for almost a full week and because of the number of irregularities that were reported during and after November 8 in Arizona, especially in Maricopa County, which had already been controversial in the 2020 presidential election.

Following news of the results, Kari Lake responded with only one tweet, “Arizonans know ‘BS’ when they it.”

At the time of this writing, Lake had not conceded her defeat.
