DeSantis Finally Responds To Trump: “It’s Just Background Noise To Me”

For months, Donald Trump has been attacking Ron DeSantis, whom he sees as one of his strongest possible contenders for the 2024 presidential election. After a cataract of nicknames, taken from the Roger Stone handbook, criticisms and put-downs of the Florida governor’s administration, the latter decided to respond… in his own way. Without going directly against the former president, DeSantis responded to the attacks received.

“Ron DeSanctimonious” and “Ron DeSanctus” are some of the nicknames with which Trump baptized DeSantis on social networks. Not content with this, he took aim again and again against his administration. “Also, Florida did great long before DeSanctus came along, got my ‘coveted’ Endorsement, shot up like a rocket, and won!” he indicated in a recent publication.

According to political analysts, the attacks began months ago, when Trump understood that DeSantis was seriously considering a presidential candidacy in 2024, thus complicating the former president’s aspirations. The bad feeling began just before the midterm elections and has only grown since then.

However, aiming not to respond, the Florida governor dodged the bullets coming out of Trump’s media shotgun time and again. Until now. In an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, which has not yet surfaced, the former congressman dropped some important headlines.

DeSantis’ response to Trump’s attacks

When asked by Morgan, he referred to Trump’s statements as “background noise” and added that he does not consider it important to be arguing “with people on social media. It’s not accomplishing anything for the people I represent. So, we really just focus on knocking out victories, day after day, and if I got involved in all the undertow, I would not be able to be an effective governor. So, I don’t think it’s something that makes sense for me.”

As for the numerous nicknames, he laughed about it and even confessed that he doesn’t know how to spell “Sanctimonious”. “II don’t really know what it means, but I kinda like it, it’s long, it’s got a lot of vowels,” he added.

He then added a bit of spice to his response. “We’ll go with that, that’s fine. I mean you can call me whatever you want, just as long as you also call me a winner because that’s what we’ve been able to do in Florida, is put a lot of points on the board and really take this state to the next level,” said DeSantis, who broke sales records in the first week of his autobiography’s release.

The Sunshine State governor tightened the pepper shaker a bit more when talking about COVID-19 and his management differences with the former president. For starters, he asserted that he “would have fired someone like Fauci.”

“I also think just in terms of my approach to leadership, I get personnel in the government who have the agenda of the people and share our agenda. If you bring your own agenda in, you’re gone. We’re just not gonna have that (…) No daily drama, focus on the big picture, and put points on the board, and I think that’s something that’s very important,” he added about his officials.

There was also room for praise

DeSantis finally hit back at Trump: "It's just background noise to me."
Among his statements with Pierce Morgan, DeSantis assured that he would have fired Anthony Fauci (EFE).

DeSantis did not forget his stint of friendship with Trump, which began with televised endorsements of the president and materialized with the latter endorsing his 2018 gubernatorial bid.

“I would go on TV, and I would defend him when it wasn’t popular and when it was kind of politically risky, but I just thought it was the right thing to do, and then I thought that he had good ideas for the country,” he said. “And then when I became governor, his last two years as president, we worked very well together. He had a place in Florida and worked well with us to serve our state,” the governor recalled.

DeSantis says he could beat Biden in 2024

DeSantis is flirting ever more strongly with a presidential run. So far, only Trump, Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy have formally declared their aspirations. Mike Pence, Tim Scott, Mike Pompeo, Chris Sununu, Larry Elder and Asa Hutchinson, among other potential candidates, are still to be expected.

The Florida governor dodged the possibility of facing Trump in the primaries, saying, “Ultimately, you know, the guy I’m gonna focus on is Biden because I think he’s failed the country,” DeSantis said. “I think the country wants a change. I think they want a fresh start and a new direction and so we’ll be very vocal about that. I spent a lot of time in Florida fighting back.”

Finally, when asked outright by Morgan if he believes he can beat President Biden in 2024, DeSantis replied, “I think so.”
