Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, began the installation of a makeshift border wall to deal with the reckless influx of illegal migrants into the United States.

It is a large barricade built with reused shipping containers, which will be placed in strategic locations where illegal migrants usually cross.

“It’s a tool that the governor is using to try to help slow down, curb this invasion, this invasion that we’re seeing at our southern border,” U.S. Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) told Fox News.

Nehls called the new structure a “great idea” and considers it to be a “defensive position” to funnel migrants so that if they do enter, they do so where there is a greater presence of law enforcement.

“We have 1,250 miles of border in Texas. That’s a lot of area to cover and we’re doing the federal government’s job for them because they refuse to do it on their own”, Nehls added.

The Republican governor criticized Biden’s inaction, which has forced governors of southern states to take matters into their own hands.

On Oct. 28, Abbott spoke with Tucker Carlson, where he laid out the details of the border wall plan.  “We began dropping these large containers that you see on 18 wheelers, you also see on these ships that are going across the ocean”, Abbott said.

Abbott told Tucker Carlson that he has also sent 6,500 National Guard and DPS troops to the border to contain the surge of migrant caravans crossing into the United States.

Texas and its improvised border wall, scene of the migration crisis

The growth in the number of illegal migrants in the United States soared to record levels in the last 35 years.

During the fiscal year 2021, authorities detained more than 1.7 million illegal migrants, according to official CBP data obtained by The Washington Post

According to CBP data, the Rio Grande Valley sector of Texas saw the highest number of arrests with 549,000 Border Patrol apprehensions; while the Del Rio sector had 259,000 apprehensions.

The border crisis began this year after President Biden took office and his speech promoted open borders with the elimination of rules and actions implemented by Donald Trump to stop illegal migration.
