The new collaborative video between NASA and Vice President Kamala Harris, while appearing to be spontaneous, hired a group of child actors who auditioned for the role.
This was revealed by one of the children in an interview for a local media in California.
According to his testimony, young actor Trevor Bernardino, 13, got the role after submitting three questions he would ask a world leader along with a monologue talking about his passions and favorite topics. “About a week later, my agent called me and said, ‘Hey, Trevor, you got it'”, Trevor told reporters, adding that he was unaware at the time that he would be able to sit down with the vice president.
Bernardino was joined by child actors Derrick Brooks II, Emily Kim, Sydney Schmooke and Zhoriel Tapo. The latter is a child actress and aspiring journalist who interviewed former first lady Michelle Obama in March this year.
“All five of them are child actors,” said Bernardino’s father, Carlo, in an interview he gave to the Washington Examiner. “He’s a child actor. He’s been trying to do this kind of thing for a while. So he has a manager and an agent in Los Angeles and they send him castings,” he added about his son’s experience.
In a collaboration with YouTube aimed at bringing space exploration to the attention of the younger generation, NASA and Harris hired Bernardino and four other child actors from different cities to shoot the video.
The spot was shot in early August, while Joe Biden and Kamala Harris refused to answer questions about the chaotic situation in Afghanistan. The video shows a group of children meeting Harris at her residence, the Naval Observatory, where she introduces herself as the chairwoman of the National Space Council.
