New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has criticized President Joe Biden’s statements expressing support for Israel. The New York congresswoman said that making such statements without taking into account the Palestinians’ side of the story is “wrong.”

“Blanket statements like these w/ little context or acknowledgment of what precipitated this cycle of violence – namely, the expulsions of Palestinians and attacks on Al Aqsa – dehumanize Palestinians & imply the US will look the other way at human rights violations.. It is wrong,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter.

Similarly, the Democrat said Hamas’s actions are reprehensible. However, she argued that Palestine has human rights that must be respected. She also accused Biden of promoting “false ideas.”

“By only stepping in to name Hamas’ actions – which are condemnable – & refusing to acknowledge the rights of Palestinians, Biden reinforces the false idea that Palestinians instigated this cycle of violence.”

Finally, she referred to the neutral position the Biden administration had shown in the conflict, with White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki’s statements on Monday, in which she said they were monitoring the situation, but did not offer details of the Biden administration’s position.

“This is not neutral language. It takes a side – the side of occupation.,” Ocasio-Cortez noted.

Support for Israel

President Joe Biden had assured on Wednesday that Israel had the right to defend itself in the face of Hamas attacks. He made the statements during a press conference in which he was asked about the situation in the Middle East.

He also indicated that members of his government are in contact with their counterparts in the Middle East. He also said he hoped it would be resolved soon.

“Israel has the right to defend itself when you have thousands of rockets flying towards your territory”, said the president.
