The majority of Amazon Alabama workers voted against creating the company’s first employee union. This after a vote in which “no” prevailed over “yes” by a large majority, according to EFE.
According to the information, there was a total participation of 3,215 votes cast. Of these, with 71 % counted, more than half (1,798) are opposed to the union. While those who support the creation of the union obtained 738 votes, less than half of their opponents.
The final results have not yet been certified by the country’s National Labor Relations Board and the unionists still have the option of filing a legal battle if they consider that there have been irregularities in the process.
Amazon Alabama workers voted on closed doors
According to EFE, the vote count began Thursday after two weeks of discussions between the company and union members over the validity of each vote in a process that was done manually and behind closed doors.
Amazon has been operating for more than 25 years and has at least 800,000 workers in the United States. It is the second-largest employer in the country and after the start of the pandemic, the number of employees increased.
