After four weeks of trial, it is now Amber Heard’s turn to testify against Johnny Depp in the defamation trial.
Depp sued Heard for $50 million over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in which she described herself as a “public figure who represents domestic abuse.” Although Depp was not named in the article, the actor claims it cost him highly lucrative jobs.
She countersued the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star for $100 million, accusing him of conspiring to destroy her reputation in a series of defamatory campaigns.
During the first weeks of the trial, Depp presented his arguments and revealed how Heard had assaulted him on countless occasions, to the point of cutting off a finger and defecating in his bed. The Pirates of the Caribbean star declared over several days that he had never hit a woman in his life and accused Heard of abuse.
Now it’s Heard’s turn to tell her side of the story. On Heard’s first day on the stand, the actress pointed out that Depp allegedly hit her just for joking about one of her tattoos.
Amber Heard’s revelations against Johnny Depp
Heard says Depp did hit her: The actress said that one day they were sitting together on a couch, when she asked him about a tattoo on his arm that said “Wino”. She claimed to have laughed thinking it was a joke, to which he allegedly responded with a punch.
Heard testified that Depp pushed and hit her. According to her account, the fights escalated quickly. The actress also described incidents in which Depp allegedly slapped her several times, pinned her against a wall and choked her.
Heard says she suffered sexual violence: Heard also addressed a 2013 incident in which she says Depp allegedly performed a “cavity search” on her against her will.
Heard testified that she and Depp were with friends getting high at a party in a desert lodging area consisting of several trailers. According to her testimony, when she and Depp returned to her room, the actor began breaking things inside his trailer. He accused her of hiding his cocaine and began ripping off her dress and underwear.
“He was telling me, ‘We’re gonna conduct a cavity search, shall we?’ Just shoved his fingers inside me. I just stood there staring at the stupid light. I didn’t know what to do. I just stood there while he did that. He just twisted his fingers around” Heard said.
