The United States celebrated this Thursday a more “normal” Thanksgiving than last year, when millions of people reunited with their families to share a dinner that was more expensive than on previous occasions because of the Biden inflation, including the turkey price.
Inflation caused by President Joe Biden’s economic policies is the biggest issue Americans face this holiday season. According to the Farm Bureau Federation, Thanksgiving dinner is 14% more expensive than last year.
Estimates from this group show that the ingredients to prepare a dinner for ten people cost an average of $53.31, including classics such as turkey and pumpkin pie.
The turkey price is 24% higher
A sixteen-pound turkey — the big star of the Thanksgiving table — costs on average $23.99, up 24% from last year.
According to the most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the year-over-year rate of inflation soared in October to 6.2%, the highest record for consumer prices since 1990.
This is the fifth consecutive month in which year-over-year inflation has been above 5%.
In addition, the prices consumers pay for gasoline rose 6.1% last month and are up 49.6% in a year, also driving up the cost of holiday travel by road.
On the day after Thanksgiving, it is customary for retailers to offer significant sales on the so-called “Black Friday”, the start of the holiday shopping season, but both inflation and supply problems mean that the shopping period is likely to be much more complicated than in the past.
