In just a few months, Andrew Cuomo went from being the ‘star governor‘ to one of the most reviled officials in the United States. After massive pressure from the Democratic Party and a population disgusted by allegations of sexual harassment, New York’s highest authority finally decided to resign.

Cuomo won an Emmy for his “response to the coronavirus”, the leaders of the Democratic Party applauded him for his measures against the pandemic, the mainstream media opened their doors to praise his role…, and now dark behaviors have come to light, revealing who the real Andrew Cuomo is.

An exhaustive investigation by independent investigators hired by the New York City District Attorney’s Office concluded that allegations of sexual misconduct against Cuomo are true. According to the inquiry, Cuomo sexually harassed several women, including former and current state employees, by engaging in unwanted groping, kissing and hugging, and making inappropriate comments.

The now former governor went from being one of Joe Biden’s most prominent and admired Democrats to having the president himself demand his resignation.

The fall of Andrew Cuomo

In 2018 when Cuomo won re-election he achieved about 76% of the vote. At the onset of the pandemic in 2020 he was considered an “exemplary manager” in explaining the impact of COVID-19. He went so far as to criticize Donald Trump’s administration for its reaction to the disease and in his press conferences stated, “facts matter.”

The results of the polls, which gave him the lead within the Democratic Party, now plummet to a point where his chances of being reelected are exhausted. In fact, everything seems to indicate that he is more likely to end up under arrest than to take office.

Now the facts speak for themselves, and they are tearing down Cuomo’s image. Not only is he facing allegations of sexual harassment against 11 women in his entourage, but he is also being investigated for using public resources for the editing and publication of his book.

He also decided to confine the population, close restaurants, schools and entertainment venues, which caused the bankruptcy of thousands of businesses and unemployment.

During his administration, Cuomo also ordered nursing homes to receive patients with positive COVID-19, so that according to investigations by the same prosecutor Letitia James, cases of the disease multiplied, causing the death of thousands of sexagenarians.

Cuomo

The “facts” highlighted in reports by Attorney General Letitia James revealed that more than 15,000 people died because of Cuomo’s order. The same regulation, which by the way, also applied to care homes for the disabled and would have driven the deaths of hundreds of them.

But as if that were not enough, the Emmy-winning administration was forced to admit that it lied about the true number of elderly who died, and worse, admitted that it deliberately concealed the real number so as not to have political consequences during a federal investigation.

In short, the “star governor” misled the public and the very media that unconditionally opened their doors to him.

Is Cuomo still an exemplary leader? Apparently not, especially since the truth about the nursing homes came out, but not because the governor had a guilty conscience, but because his aide Melissa DeRosa admitted to Democratic lawmakers in a private meeting that Cuomo intentionally kept the data secret for fear of possible repercussions from the Justice Department.

Now, the Democrat, who paradoxically chairs the National Governors Association, faces a federal investigation and the scrutiny of party leaders who have also decided to condemn Cuomo’s deplorable behavior.

As if all the scandals surrounding him were not enough, the “famed” former governor of New York has decided to shield his mistakes by claiming that the women who consider themselves his victims misunderstood his actions.

“I take full responsibility for my actions,” he said; and claimed that there have been “generational or cultural shifts” that he has failed to understand.

Now Cuomo’s future is uncertain but not encouraging, his resignation from the governorship will be effective in 14 days and after that he will have to deal with investigations against him and even with a criminal complaint that, if confirmed, could put him behind bars.

This is how the politician, who wanted to become a TV star and who also won an Emmy for his “impeccable” management, will now have to face Justice and the repudiation of those who once applauded him.
