To the surprise of many, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), also known as AOC, was not actually in the Capitol during the assault last January 6th, despite the Democrat’s assurances.
According to an Instagram video posted by AOC a few days after the siege, the Congresswoman stated that she was in her office when the U.S. Capitol building was stormed. She also claimed that the rioters had entered her office, as reported by Newsweek.
According to the Congresswoman’s version, she was about to be killed by the citizens who entered the Capitol and her office. The video in which she recounts this event has been viewed more than six million times.
Newsweek reported that “AOC said the rioters entered her office, forcing her to take shelter inside her bathroom after her legislative director, Geraldo Bonilla-Chavez, told her to “run and hide.” Ocasio-Cortez went on in her explanation giving numerous (false) details, saying: “then I run back to my office. I knock on the door. There’s another sort of back area similar to my office, I open it and there’s a closet and a bathroom. And I jump into the bathroom.”
In the Instagram live-stream the Congresswoman made, she confessed that she had “a very close encounter, where I thought I was going to die.” When she recounted the alleged event, she reveals that while hiding in her bathroom she began to hear screams of men saying “”Where is she!!! Where is she!!!””
She relates later, that she felt unsafe since “there were QAnon supporters and white supremacists and, frankly, members of Congress who are white supremacists at that extraction point that I know of and I felt that they would reveal my location and create opportunities to allow me to be hurt or kidnapped.”
However, the Congresswoman’s story is inconsistent with the distances between her office and the Capitol building.
AOC vs reality
The controversy, however, began today when journalist Jack Posobiec shared AOC’s true location. Since she herself claimed she was in her office, Posobiec showed that the congresswoman was actually four kilometers from the Capitol, where Trump supporters stormed and entered certain offices in addition to the House floor.
When Posobiec exposed her lies, the Congresswoman responded by saying that the journalist’s work was “poor” because according to her, what Posobiec shared did not show the correct places where the citizens stormed (which is false, because it is detailed in numerous videos) and did not show the accesses to the tunnels.
The way Posobiec responded was to expose AOC’s double standard: she posted an old tweet where the Congresswoman supported the “Black Lives Matter” and “Antifa” riots that destroyed hundreds of businesses and killed innocents. In the tweet, AOC is read stating, “The point of protesting is to make people uncomfortable. Activists take those discomforts with the status quo and advocate for concrete policy changes. Grassroots support usually starts small and grows. People who complain because protests make other people uncomfortable… that’s the point.”
This was enough to spark the hashtag #AlexandriaOcasioSmollett athat became a trending topic, making it look like she had been outed as was the French “Empire” actor Jussie Smollet, who blatantly lied by making up an attack he suffered by two Trump supporters who manhandled him and shouted homophobic and racist slurs at him in Chicago. But evidence from the police department suggests the actor orchestrated the attack.
For her part, conservative activist and author Candace Owens also debunked AOC when the Congresswoman claimed Trump supporters had planted bombs on Capitol Hill.
“This is a dangerous lie and @TwitterSafety should remove it. There were absolutely ZERO bombs planted by “Trump supporters.” Pipe bombs were planted outside of both Republican and Democratic Headquarters the night before Trump’s speech—and the FBI has no idea who planted them.”
