Arizona Governor Doug Ducey has arrived in Taiwan for a three-day visit to meet with the island’s President Tsai Ing-wen and representatives of the semiconductor industry, the island’s CNA agency reported.

The arrival of Ducey, who landed in Taipei on Tuesday, marks the second visit by a U.S. governor to the island in just ten days, after his counterpart from Indiana visited Taiwan last week.

The Republican Party governor will also meet with Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Joseph Wu and participate in a business event to “promote trade and investment opportunities,” the island’s Foreign Ministry said.

Ducey will visit semiconductor companies and universities with microchip-related programs to “expand cooperation between Arizona and Taiwan” in that field.

The trip comes just weeks after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a fleeting visit to Taiwan that infuriated China and triggered tensions between Washington and Beijing, which called the trip a “farce” and a “deplorable betrayal.”
