Councilman Antonio Brown, who also aspires to run for mayor of Atlanta, was robbed while attending an inauguration ceremony for an event. According to local media, Brown described the assailants as 6- and 12-year-old boys. The councilman has been in favor of defunding the police.

The news became a trend and some citizens made jokes because Brown voted last year in favor of an ordinance to withhold $73 million from the Atlanta Police Department’s budget. The ordinance was voted down by a small margin.

Indeed, the situation comes just weeks after Brown announced his mayoral campaign amid a spike in violent crime in the city. Likewise, he has communicated a plan to supposedly improve security.
Earlier this year 2021, he sponsored a City Council ordinance to study the feasibility of restructuring Atlanta’s law enforcement agencies.
