Something dramatic has happened for the legal efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump. Who was profiled as one of his great allies —or at least he was— Attorney General William Barr, said in an interview with The Associated Press that “there is no evidence of fraud that changes the outcome of the election.
According to the article published by the news agency, “Attorney General William Barr said on Tuesday that the The Justice Department has found no evidence of widespread electoral fraud that would change the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
Barr said U.S. prosecutors and FBI agents have been working to follow up on specific complaints and information about election irregularities they have received, but so far have not uncovered any evidence that could change the outcome of the election. These are statements that fall very heavily on the Trump campaign.
Why this? Because the Attorney General was, or is, a great ally of President Donald Trump. Throughout the year he pointed out the threats about the manipulation of absentee ballots or mail ballots if they were implemented on a massive scale. In addition, Barr himself had authorized all the country’s prosecutors to investigate any irregularities or allegations of fraud in the electoral process.
That authorization by Barr provoked the outrage and subsequent resignation of the main prosecutor in charge of electoral crimes at the Department of Justice, Richard Pilger. Of course, the attorney general’s decision had been a direct endorsement of President Trump’s legal efforts.
The Trump Legal Team’s Response to Attorney General Barr
The campaign’s reaction to William Barr’s statements was not long in coming.
“With all due respect to the Attorney General, there has been no such thing as a Justice Department investigation. We have gathered extensive evidence of illegal voting in at least six states, which they have not examined. We have many witnesses who testified – under oath – that they saw crimes committed in connection with the election fraud.Part of Trump’s legal team statement.
The response from Trump’s legal team argued that none of the witnesses on Trump’s legal team have been interviewed by the Department of Justice. They added that “DOJ has also not audited any voting machines or used its subpoena powers to determine the truth.
If Barr’s statements to AP were strong, Trump’s legal team response did not use euphemisms either. After insisting that they will continue to “pursue the truth through the judicial system and state legislatures,” the statement pointed out against the prosecutor: “With the greatest respect to the attorney general, his opinion appears to have no knowledge or investigation of substantial irregularities and evidence of systemic fraud.
However, beyond the statement of the legal team, the attorney general’s words were totally unexpected and unequivocally strong against the president’s legal efforts.
With each passing day, it seems that the legal battle is more uphill for Trump, allies are beginning to fade, and support seems more distant.
So far, there is no hard evidence of massive election fraud; on the contrary, there are a number of reported irregularities that the system has not yet detected as strong enough to overturn the election result.
Several pendulum states were certified in favor of Biden, also most of the president’s demands have been rejected. The outlook is not encouraging for the legal team and Trump himself.
