God bless Bette Midler. She may not be the brightest light bulb in the bunch, but at least she’s accidentally making the case for Americans’ gun rights.
Ahead of the NRA convention that was held in the wake of the Uvalde mass shooting tragedy, Midler encouraged anti-gun activists to ‘come armed’ in protest of the event.
“AT THE GEORGE R BROWN CONVENTION CENTER IN HOUSTON TEXAS, THIS WEEKEND,” Midler wrote. “Come armed,” she added.
She was responding to an activist’s tweet on the NRA convention.
“The NRA conference is THIS Friday,” the tweet said. “In Houston, Texas. Nice timing, a**holes. Speakers include Ted Cruz and Gov. Greg Abbott, who boasts an A+ rating from the same NRA. Are they worried? No. The conference area is a ‘no gun’ zone. They’re brazen, greedy, and shameless, not stupid.”
Midler had earlier tweeted that the protesters should “come like January 6.”
“So I hope the protesters come like January 6, and give them a taste of their own medicine,” Midler also said.
But that would be impossible, because January 6 protesters who were actually in the capitol building weren’t armed with guns.
Midler is unwittingly making the case that everyone has the right to bear arms to defend themselves against others — be it criminals, rioters, or even their own government.
As an illustration of this point, a West Virginia woman with a firearm recently saved innumerable lives by stopping a mass shooter who had an AR-15.
The Associated Press reported that she “fatally shot a man who began firing an AR-15-style rifle into a crowd of people that had gathered for a party,” citing local authorities.
“Dennis Butler, 37, was killed Wednesday night after he pulled out the rifle and began shooting at dozens of people attending the birthday-graduation party outside an apartment complex in the city of Charleston,” the police statement said.
“The woman, who was attending the party, drew a pistol and fired, killing Butler, the statement said,” the AP reported. “No one at the party was injured.”
See, Bette? Gun ownership isn’t necessarily a bad thing. And if you want to “come armed” to events, that’s your Constitutional right as an American citizen.
