In its intention to reform the U.S. immigration system, the administration of Joe Biden ordered to stop using terms such as aliens, illegal aliens, and assimilation when referring to immigrants arriving in the country on a daily basis.

According to The Washington Post, the Democratic administration sent a memo to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to replace the terms with non-citizens or migrants, undocumented and integration.

“As the nation’s premier law enforcement agency, we set a tone and example for our country and partners across the world,” said Troy Miller, CBP’s top official.

“We enforce our nation’s laws while maintaining the dignity of every person we interact with. The words we use matter and will serve to further confer that dignity on those in our custody,” Miller said.

The Biden administration intends for the new rule to be applied even in the social media and press releases of those agencies when referring to people they detain for violating immigration laws or illegally crossing the border.

A source with knowledge of the new policy told Fox News that senior Department of Homeland Security officials pushed for the change for weeks before Biden’s memos.

While the Democratic administration seeks to “humanize” migration with terms such as ‘non-citizen’, there are reports of inhumane treatment in migrant care centers at the border.

On April 7, reports of irregularities committed by authorities on hundreds of children overcrowded in care centers established by Biden became known. The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, demanded that the president respond to accusations of abuse and negligence.

Added to these allegations is the controversy that the Biden administration is adding more bureaucracy to reduce the number of arrests of migrants who committed “minor crimes”.

According to immigration law, any person who is in the country without legal status can be deported, but under the Biden-Harris administration this regulation is not being complied with and, on the contrary, priorities have been established as to who can and cannot be detained.

According to The Wall Street Journal, for the Democratic administration, if an illegal immigrant has only committed “minor offenses”, he/she does not deserve to be deported or detained, unless he/she meets the new guidelines of having recently entered the country.
