Major Democratic media that applauded Joe Biden when he announced the withdrawal of troops in Afghanistan and that showed complacency with the Democratic administration, today decided to turn their backs on him after the catastrophe that his actions meant and the danger that the Taliban represent for the world.

Last July 8, Joe Biden declared that it was “very unlikely” that the Taliban would take power in Afghanistan, and assured, “that we would not see American citizens fleeing the U.S. embassy”. A month later, the president’s words fell apart, showing that he was wrong and that his decision to drastically withdraw troops is already causing deaths and a major threat to world security.

Members of Congress are demanding more information from the administration on how its intelligence could have misjudged the situation on the ground, or why more robust contingency plans were not implemented to evacuate Americans and not harm its allies.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy pressed officials, including Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley, on why the process happened so quickly.

Democratic media that applauded Biden now turn their backs on him

When Biden announced that he would withdraw American troops, major media outlets such as TIME magazine, praised the president: “Biden’s move brings to an end America’s longest war, a long simmering conflict that meant solemn sacrifice for military families and changed so much of day-to-day life for all Americans, even if they don’t immediately realize it,” Time wrote in a tweet.

In April, the New York Times devoted itself only to quoting Biden on the news of the troop withdrawal, yet four months after showing complacency, the paper criticizes Biden for “misguided and contradictory policies.”

“Two decades after the invasion of Afghanistan by American troops searching for Al-Qaeda terrorists who struck on Sept. 11, 2001, the American experiment in nation-building lay in ruins, undermined by misguided and often contradictory policies and an implacable insurgency whose staying power had been profoundly underestimated by American military planners,” the Times notes today.

The New Yorker, a newspaper that has been sympathetic to Joe Biden’s policies, also published an article titled, “How America Failed in Afghanistan.” The article acknowledges that the Taliban surprised the United States and that Biden decided to blame “the Afghan government and its people.”

“But the speed of the Taliban advance has stunned American officials and left desperate Afghans trying to flee the country. Responding to criticism about his plan, Biden has sought to shift blame to the Afghan government and its people, saying, ‘They have got to fight for themselves.'”

“The jihadists the U.S. toppled 20 years ago for sheltering Osama bin Laden will now fly their flag over the U.S. Embassy building on the 20th anniversary of 9/11,” notes a Wall Street Journal editorial that headlined, “Biden’s Afghanistan Surrender.”

The Atlantic, another Democratic-leaning media outlet, published a harsh article in which it went so far as to call Biden a traitor.

The piece titled: “Biden’s Betrayal of Afghans Will Live in Infamy” noted that the Afghans “who helped us, counted on us, and staked their lives on us” and now that it has happened “is a final, gratuitous shame that we could have avoided.”

Joe Biden had hoped that his decision would lead to headlines like “The war in Afghanistan is over”, however the reality was different: today’s headlines condemn that the Democratic president has withdrawn the American military without having foreseen what was to come: chaos in the Middle East, terror before new terrorist attacks and the expansion of the Taliban around the world.
