President Joe Biden has falsely claimed that when he took office there was no supply of vaccine available, either in person or to administer it to Americans.
“It’s one thing to have the vaccine, which we didn’t have when we came into office, and a vaccinator, how do you put the vaccine in someone’s arm? Then you need the paraphernalia, you need the needle, you need the mechanisms to be able to get it in, you have to have people who can inject it into people’s arms,” he said.
The statement was qualified as false due to the fact that former President Donald Trump approved in his administration the Pfizer and Moderna immunizations; whose first doses began to be administered on December 14 and 22, respectively, a month before Biden’s inauguration on January 20th, 2021. Even President Biden himself, before taking office, had received two doses of the vaccine.
He added: “What we did, we got to the office and discovered the supply, there was no backlog, I mean, there was nothing in the refrigerator, figuratively and literally speaking.”
Just two days after Biden took office, Bloomberg News reported that the United States was already on track to meet the president’s goal of 100 million vaccines in 100 days.
Biden had previously predicted that vaccines could be available to all Americans by the northern spring, but the White House recently downgraded its optimism, citing problems with vaccine availability and the ability to administer them.
When asked when all Americans would be vaccinated, the president said during a meeting with citizens organized by CNN: “By the end of July of this year we will have 600 million doses.”
