The immigration crisis at the southern border could turn into a “total catastrophe overnight” because of new immigration policies that the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris Administration plans to implement.

This was the warning from at least 51 House Republicans in a letter to President Biden. The statement describes as harmful the signing of the executive order to give access to migrants awaiting asylum in Mexico, because it will intensify the immigration crisis in the United States.

In the letter they cite figures on the increase in the entry of migrants: “This week Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents have seen the average daily flow soar to more than 3,500 migrants, up from 2,000 last month. The Border Patrol’s 21-day average has increased to nearly 3,000.”

The Republicans add in the letter that “The number of unaccompanied minors illegally entering our borders is approaching 300 per day. CBP has not seen numbers like this since the height of the immigration crisis in the summer of 2019. CBP has already found more than 200,000 illegal immigrants since October and the numbers are rising. For context, in the first three months of fiscal year 2020, CBP found 128,347.”

The lawmakers reminded Biden that “the federal government’s fundamental responsibility is to protect America, not to ignore the law and actively encourage, incentivize and facilitate illegal migration in ways that empower cartels and endanger both American citizens and migrants, who are wrongly encouraged to succumb to the dangerous journey.”

They also urged Biden not to allow his Administration’s political ideologies to blind him from “the need to secure the border, defend Americans and prevent another humanitarian crisis.”
