Biden Signs Gun Bill, Slams Supreme Court, Dodges Reporters by Telling Them He’s Got to Catch ‘a Helicopter’

President Joe Biden signed a sweeping gun control package into law on Saturday morning before telling the press he’s got to go catch a ‘helicopter.’

“I have a helicopter waiting for me…I think the Supreme Court has made some terrible decisions,” Biden said before walking away.

Earlier, Biden had signed the gun control package, which is loaded with (unconstitutional) red flag laws, waiting periods, and taking away the right to firearm for those convicted of certain misdemeanors.

“The Senate approved the legislation, dubbed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, in a 65-33 vote late Thursday night,” the Hill reported. “Fifteen Republicans, including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), joined all Democrats in approving the measure.”

“On Thursday night following the Senate vote, President Biden urged the House to ‘promptly vote’on the legislation ‘and send it to my desk’,” the report added.

The gun safety bill is 80 pages long and includes six major gun control provisions:

  • Enhanced background checks for people 18 to 21
  • Funding for ‘red flag’ laws and other intervention programs
  • Closing the so-called ‘boyfriend loophole
  • Children and family mental health services
  • Clarifying the definition of gun dealers
  • Cracking down on straw purchasers and illegal trafficking of firearms

The law comes in the wake of a major Supreme Court decision on Thursday that struck a blow against “may issue” states that were imposing “proper cause” standards for concealed carry permits.

The 6-3 SCOTUS decision handed down with the majority opinion delivered by Justice Clarence Thomas drew a number of heated reactions from the mainstream media and Democratic officials.

Biden joined them by giving his own reaction to the high court’s ruling.

“I am disappointed in the Supreme Court gun decision,” Biden said.

It is arguable that the “red flag” laws would violate not only the Second Amendment and Fourteenth Amendment, but also Fifth Amendment due process rights. In October 2020, the Supreme Court decided that red flag laws were unconstitutional.
