Since President Joe Biden assumed power in the White House, he has not taken a single measure to curb the migration crisis; on the contrary, his decisions have been framed in long-term palliative actions and diplomatic solutions.

Last Monday, April 19, the Democratic administration decided to retract and deny Biden’s statements, who had previously admitted that what happened at the southern border is a “crisis.”

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki contradicted the president and pointed out that what Biden was referring to was the crisis in Central America that is causing the exodus of migrants.

“The president does not feel that the arrival of children at our border seeking refuge from violence, economic hardship or other reasons is a crisis,” Psaki said.

The spokeswoman’s statements do not reflect the reality that is experienced at the border and that both Democratic and Republican senators have denounced: more than a thousand illegal migrants enter U.S. territory daily without being apprehended.

Psaki sees the massive arrival of abandoned children as normal. He omits the background of what is really happening and which has been denounced by the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott. The children are used as decoys by traffickers to smuggle undetected anything from narcotics to adults who may have criminal records.

In the face of this situation, Biden has not formally announced strong actions to stop this scourge. In fact, four prosecutors from various U.S. states sued the administration to reinstate Donald Trump’s immigration measures that had drastically reduced illegal immigration figures.

While governors such as Doug Ducey of Arizona declare an “emergency” and announce the dispatch of the National Guard to the border to help officials, Biden remains silent.

So far only informal agreements are known between the United States, Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras to increase troops with the intention of “complicating travel and border crossings,” according to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.

According to the Chicago Tribune “Mexico will maintain some 10,000 troops on its own southern border, and up to 9,000 on the northern border; Guatemala added 1,500 troops along its border with Honduras, while Honduras put 7,000 police and troops along the border with Guatemala”.

For her part, Kamala Harris, in charge of dealing with the migration crisis, has decided not to travel to the area, and instead has announced that her actions are diplomatic. The vice-president has not offered any press conference to clarify the situation.

As this is happening, frustration is beginning to be felt by immigration officials who say their hands are tied.

A Fox News report showed how a Homeland Security whistleblower speaking on the condition of anonymity said the Biden administration’s policies “were implemented irresponsibly.”

“People are very exhausted and there’s not a lot of optimism that it’s going to get better any time soon,” the official said in an interview with Sara Carter.

Late last month, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) blamed Biden for the migration crisis arguing that the “expectations” he created left migrants with the perception that they would be allowed into the United States.

Biden decided to reverse Trump’s immigration policies, has ignored the request to declare Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, and has not provided answers to Republican governors on what measures have been taken to prevent the migration crisis from continuing to escalate.

Republicans call for action on immigration crisis

On April 19, the top Republicans on three House Committees stated that “it is unclear what action has been taken or is planned to be taken to respond to the migration crisis that continues to worsen by the day.”

“It appears that the Biden-Harris administration refuses to take meaningful action to stop the influx of illegal aliens at the border and instead is releasing thousands into the interior,” wrote Representatives Jim Jordan (R-Ohio ), John Katko (R-NY) and James Comer (R-Ky.) in their letter to Harris late Monday.

“The total number of encounters at the southern border this fiscal year already exceeds half a million, and we have not even entered the months when the number of crossings is historically the highest,” they said in the missive.
