Biden, The President Who Didn’t Want War

Nothing has really worked out since last August 15 for the president of the world’s most important economy, Joe Biden. From his disastrous departure from Afghanistan to his belated press conferences with no right of reply, the president appears hesitant and without a clear direction.

Biden’s arguments for this shameful withdrawal are as thin as they are weak: he claims that at some point the U.S. had to leave and that… well, that’s basically it. The president probably knows that no one is criticizing or questioning this particular fact, but rather his manners and his (lack of) timing. Joe Biden, the president who did not want a war, through abrupt decisions bordering on the inexplicable, soaked his hands in innocent blood.

Does Joe Biden have bad intentions? Chances are he doesn’t. But he is inept, and ineptitude in the Oval Office is unforgivable.

Following the terrorist attack — which ISIS later claimed responsibility for — at the Kabul airport last Thursday, August 26, the President of the United States said in an emotionally charged (to the point of theatricality) press conference, “To those who carried out this attack, as well as anyone who wishes America harm, know this: We will not forgive. We will not forget.  We will hunt you down and make you pay. I will defend our interests and our people with every measure at my command.” And so, Joe Biden, the president who didn’t want a war, started one.

Upon Biden fell what so many feared with Trump. Trump, that unsophisticated and sneering, temperamental and aggressive character, was (and of course this is a surprise to all) more measured than the current president.  Or at least less impulsive. And that is already saying a lot. The truth is that no one expected much from Biden on foreign policy, and yet we all feel ripped off.

With this clumsy and hasty withdrawal, Biden shredded the physical, emotional and legal security of all Afghan women (betraying all world’s women equally) with his whims. He put his allies at high risk, particularly NATO allies (the most valuable). Biden, the president who didn’t want a war, created another migration crisis that will be a problem mainly for Europe (in his defense, migration crises are usually his area of expertise). In one fell swoop, he facilitated the return of the Taliban and dragged ISIS back from the dead. ISIS, ladies and gentlemen! But most of all, Joe Biden, the president who didn’t want a war, got himself one. And that shame is something he will have to deal with alone.
