Department of Homeland Security agencies issued at least 255,602 smartphones to illegal migrants in FY 2022. Most of the phones were issued to single adults.

According to the ICE website, the phones are traceable and by giving them away they seek to track migrants and often ask them to send a picture of themselves with geotags showing their location.

A report by The Epoch Times revealed that the cost of the smartphones and telephone service is $89.5 million a year—paid by the federal government.

ICE began handing out smartphones last year when border stations were overwhelmed. Agents began processing illegal immigrants under a newly created category called “Parole+ATD,” which is handled like parole and is applied on a case-by-case basis and for “urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit,” according to the Immigration and Nationality Act.

The special status allows foreign nationals, who are otherwise inadmissible to the country under immigration law, to live and work in the U.S. temporarily without being formally admitted to the U.S. and without having a path to residency, according to a 2020 Congressional Research Service report.

In addition to smartphones, nearly 41,000 additional illegal aliens in FY2022 were equipped with ankle monitors that have built-in GPS tracking.

Whereabouts of over 500,000 illegal migrants unknown

The number of illegal migrants who have escaped from authorities and are reportedly at large in the country without documentation exceeds half a million people so far this year.

More than 500,000 illegal migrants managed to slip into the country without being apprehended by Border Patrol officials. Their whereabouts and whether gang members, traffickers or petty criminals with criminal records are among this large group are now unknown.

The number of migrant encounters at the southern border totals more than two million this fiscal year, surpassing last year’s already historic 1.7 million apprehensions. These figures do not include the hundreds of thousands of people who have escaped Border Patrol and for whom there is no record.

Senior DHS sources told Fox News that there have been an average of more than 55,000 “leaks” per month. That number does not take into account the number of illegal migrants who have outrun Border Patrol agents and also have not been detected by cameras and drones deployed at the border.

Biden administration releases thousands of inadmissible migrants in the U.S.

Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz admitted that the Biden administration is releasing aliens who would not normally be admissible into the country. He also acknowledged that Democratic immigration policies would be driving mass migration because migrants see no consequences of entering the country in violation of the laws.

Ortiz’s statements came under oath following a lawsuit filed by FL Attorney General Ashley Moody against the Department of Homeland Security and other border agencies.

Florida’s attorney general accuses the Biden administration of having only one solution to the increase of illegal immigrants in the country: mass releases.
