The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services agency announced that it will return to the 2008 version of the civics test for naturalization starting March 1st, 2021. With this, President Joe Biden will reverse the changes implemented by Donald Trump’s administration.

In a statement, the agency assured that the content implemented in recent years, as well as “the evaluation procedures and application schedule could create potential barriers to the naturalization process.”

With this, it indicated that the test would be significantly modified. The test, which went into effect as of December 1st, 2020, altered some of the questions and added others.

According to the New York Post, citizens will now be asked only 10 questions instead of 20. In addition, the applicant must answer 60% of them correctly, that is, 6 out of 10, and pass an English test.

People who applied for citizenship between December 1st, 2020, and March 1st, 2021, and are scheduled for an interview before April 19th, 2021, can choose which version of the test they prefer to take: the 2008 standard or the Trump administration’s version. After April 19th, only the former will apply.
