Gymnast Simone Biles has expressed gratitude for the love she has received since announcing her withdrawal from, so far, two Tokyo Games finals.
“The outpouring love & support I’ve received has made me realize I’m more than my accomplishments and gymnastics which I never truly believed before,” Biles tweeted.
This comment from Biles, the first she uploaded to her networks after stepping aside at Tokyo 2020 and admitting she has mental health issues, went viral immediately and was met with further expressions of support, especially from people who have suffered the same difficulties.
Biles, an absolute leader in the world of gymnastics since 2013, made an appeal in Tokyo “to protect the body and mind” of athletes.
Already withdrawn from the team and absolute individual finals of the Olympics, the evaluation of the doctors will determine if she can compete in the apparatus finals on August 1, 2 and 3.
