On Thursday, Black Lives Matter (BLM) co-founder leader Hawk Newsome threatened New York City Mayor-elect Eric Adams, a Democrat, with “riots” and “bloodshed” if he dares to reinstate the New York Police Department’s (NYPD) Anti-Crime Unit.
Newsome made the threats after a heated exchange with Adams at Brooklyn Borough Hall that was live-streamed on Instagram.
Adams and Newsome also clashed over accountability. During their closed-door meeting, the elected mayor told the activist that not only should he sit down and make demands, but that he and his group should also be held accountable.
“Stop the violence in my community,” Adams demanded from the BLM activists. “I hold you accountable,” He added.
While Adams was able to move forward with activists on his plans to combat poverty in the black community when he takes office, the also former NYPD captain promised to bring back the NYC anti-crime units made up of some 600 plainclothes officers dedicated to combating violence, a fact that upset BLM.
“If they think that they’re going to go back to the old ways of policing, then we are going to take the streets again,” Newsome said outside Borough Hall after the meeting. “There will be riots. There will be fire. There will be bloodshed.”
“We have people in the City Hall who can create problems for you,” Newsome continued. “We have people in the streets that can create problems for this administration.”
After the meeting, which was improvised and included a dozen BLM members, Adams told reporters that he would not tolerate intimidating language or threats.
“It’s nonsense. I don’t think New Yorkers should allow rhetoric like that,” Adams told Fox 5 New York on Thursday. “This city will not become a city of riots.”
The elected mayor also said he didn’t care that the meeting was live-streamed because he had nothing to hide.
BLM threatening violence…. is that in itself not a crime?
Perhaps this BLM leader and the entire top tier should be thrown in solitary confinement for six months. The Government is already doing that, so why split hairs?
