Five members of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) resigned Tuesday amid growing criticism for their role in the state’s massive power outages that occurred during the latest winter storm.
Board Chair Sally Talberg; Vice Chair Peter Cramton; Finance and Audit Chair Terry Bulger; Human Resources and Governance Committee Chair Raymond Hepper; and Vanessa Anesetti-Parra, who represents independent retail electric providers made their departure from the company known through a letter they submitted to the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC).
The directors do not live in the state and have received criticism from residents.
The Dallas Morning News reported that the members claim that they recognize the pain and suffering Texans experienced last week and have recognized increasing concerns about the out-of-state board’s leadership at ERCOT.
“To allow state leaders a free hand with future direction and to eliminate distractions, we are resigning from the board effective after our urgent teleconference meeting adjourns on Wednesday, February 24, 2021,” an official statement reads.
The group’s departure comes two days before both ERCOT and PUC testified before lawmakers from both Texas houses during a joint hearing Thursday, according to KXAN.
