Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro swept the presidential elections among Brazilians in the U.S. with 55% of the votes, while former President Lula da Silva received only 31% of the votes.

Miami was the city with the highest support for Bolsonaro. 73% of Brazilians registered to vote in the U.S. voted for him, while only 16% voted for Lula. On the other hand, New York gave him 45% of the votes, and 42% voted for the former socialist president. In Houston, he received 54% of the votes over Lula, who received only 28%.

In cities such as San Francisco, Washington DC, and Chicago, Lula obtained the most support with 53%, 45%, and 50%, respectively.

With 99.99% of the polling stations counted, Lula da Silva obtained 48.43% of the votes and Jair Bolsonaro 43.20%. These results mean the presidential election will be defined in a second round between Bolsonaro and Lula. On Sunday, October 30, they will meet again and it will be known who will occupy the Planalto Palace.

Bolsonaro received the support of Donald Trump

Former President Donald Trump, from an airplane, sent a message of support to Bolsonaro, whom he defined as a “fantastic leader.”

“To the people of Brazil, you have a great opportunity to reelect a fantastic leader, a fantastic man, one of the great presidents of any country in the world,” he said in a video.

Bolsonaro did an “absolutely incredible job with your economy, with your country. He is respected by everybody all throughout the world. So I strongly endorse President Bolsonaro. So go out and vote for Bolsonaro,” Trump added.

Bolsonaro, meanwhile, thanked on social media for the support of his “friend Trump.”
