The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, was denied entry to the Vila Belmiro soccer stadium in Sao Paulo for not having received the Covid-19 vaccine.
Regardless of whether someone has suffered from the virus or not, vaccination is a requirement for access to the Urbano Caldeira Stadium, where the 25th match of the Brazilian championship between the clubs Santos and Gremio was being played.
In a video made public by the local media Metrópoles, the president said he wanted to watch the match but was not allowed to enter the stadium because he was not vaccinated.
“Why [do they ask for] vaccination passports?” says Bolsonaro in the video. “Why? If I have more antibodies than with the vaccine.”
The Brazilian president was one of the first presidents to be infected with the new coronavirus in July last year, and recovered with the help of a treatment based on azithromycin and hydroxychloroquine, according to his own words.
Since August, the Brazilian Football Confederation announced that the states would have the final say on the biosecurity protocols to be followed to allow public access to stadiums, and suggested vaccination or negative PCR test as the main requirement.
This is not the first time Bolsonaro has been banned for his vaccination status. Last month, while attending the UN General Assembly in New York, he was denied entry to a restaurant and decided to order take-out and eat outside the establishment.
Bolsonaro has said he will be “the last Brazilian” to receive the coronavirus vaccine.
