Reality TV star and former star athlete Caitlyn Jenner confirmed on Friday her candidacy for Governor of California. She made the announcement via Twitter and was echoed by Caroline Wren, who was an advisor to former President Trump and is also expected to run Jenner’s campaign, according to information reported by Politico last week.

“I’m in! California is worth fighting for. Visit http://CaitlynJenner.com to follow or donate today.#RecallNewsom,” was the message with which Jenner made the announcement.

Likewise, in the statement she explained that she has most of her life living in California. She maintained that when she decided to make the state her home, she did so because it is a place where anyone can achieve their dreams and projects without discrimination.

“California has been my home for nearly 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could turn their dreams into reality,” she said.

However, she maintained that for some time now she has seen life for Californians get worse. “But for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by a one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people. Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision,” she said.

Jenner is a member of the Republican Party, which has not won in California in years and whose electoral successes have been linked to stars such as Clint Eastwood, former mayor of Carmel, and Ronald Reagan, who served as the state’s governor from 1967 to 1975 before ascending to the presidency in 1981.

Jenner will have to fight for the Republican ticket against businessman John Cox, a 2018 GOP gubernatorial candidate, former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and former Rep. Doug Ose, who have already launched their campaigns.
