Caitlyn Jenner, a Republican candidate for governor of California, said she agrees with a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants in the United States.

Jenner told CNN that she favors granting that benefit to the 1.75 million undocumented immigrants in the state’s labor force.

“I am for legal immigration, okay. What’s been happening on the border was honestly one of the reasons I decided to run for governor,” Jenner said in the interview.

“I was watching people dying come across the river, kids in cages — whatever you want to call them,” added the TV star, who announced her candidacy in late April.

She stressed that these people should have the opportunity to get citizenship.

“There’s a lot of people, but personally I have met some of the most wonderful people who are immigrants, who have come to this country and they are just model citizens. They are just great people and I would fight for them to be US citizens,” Jenner said.

On deportations, the aspirant of the Republican Party, a formation that has not won in California for years, said that “the bad ones have to leave.”

“It’s a lot of bad people that are trying to cross our border illegally. I don’t want those people in our country,” she told CNN.

In California, the campaign to oust Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom and call for fresh elections is moving forward.

Jenner, who rose to fame when he won the decathlon in the 1976 Olympic Games, married Kris Kardashian in 1991 and in 2015 announced his transition to womanhood.

The successes of the Republican Party in California, where it has not won for years, have been linked to stars such as Clint Eastwood, former mayor of the town of Carmel, or Ronald Reagan, who served as governor of the state between 1967 and 1975 before ascending to the Presidency of the country in 1981.

The last Republican governor of California was another actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, from 2003 to 2011, precisely after winning a recall election.

The recall campaign against Democrat Newsom achieved most of its signatures between late 2020 and early 2021, when the governor imposed drastic measures that paralyzed the economy and also made California the state with the most deaths in the country.

So far, several Republicans have already announced that they will participate as candidates in the election against Newsom, such as former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer; businessman and former gubernatorial candidate, John Cox.
