The investigative report released by New York Attorney General Letitia James not only concluded that Governor Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed several women, but also found that the Executive Chamber, by its actions, covered up what happened.

The independent investigators appointed by James released their report today on the multiple allegations of sexual harassment against Governor Cuomo. In the document, they confirm that the allegations were true and that the Executive Chamber pressured the victims to silence them.

“The governor and his senior staff took actions to retaliate against at least one former employee for coming forward with her story,” the NY AG report said.

According to investigators, the Executive Chamber fostered a “toxic” workplace that allowed “harassment to occur and created a hostile work environment.” They also found that Cuomo’s actions and those of the Executive Chamber violated multiple state and federal laws, as well as the Executive Chamber’s own written policies.

Investigators spoke with 179 people over the course of the five-month investigation, including whistleblowers and current and former members of the Executive Chamber, according to James.

The prosecutor said the investigation resulted in a “deeply disturbing, but clear picture” of a “toxic workplace” and a “climate of fear” in which Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women, many of them young women, “through unwanted groping, kissing and hugging and making inappropriate comments.”

Cuomo and his staff also retaliated against at least one former female employee for complaining about his conduct, according to the prosecutor.

Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed many women: NY AG report

“This is a sad day for New York because independent investigators have concluded that Governor Cuomo sexually harassed several women and, in doing so, violated the law,” Attorney General James said in a statement.

“I thank all of the women who came forward to tell their stories in painstaking detail, which allowed investigators to get to the truth. No man, no matter how powerful, can be allowed to harass women or violate our human rights laws, period,” she added.

Cuomo denies the allegations

After learning of Letitia James’ conclusion, Cuomo denied all allegations. He stated that “the facts are very different from what is described” and, he added, “I’m 62 years old, that’s not who I am.”
