Capitol Police reported today that they are investigating “a bomb threat” near the Library of Congress, officials said.
“This is a bomb threat investigation. Please avoid the area,” Police stressed in a message on their Twitter account, without offering further details.
They have pointed to the possible presence of an explosive device in a van.
The Library of Congress is located in front of the Capitol, in the complex that houses the legislative headquarters.
Lawmakers are out of Washington as part of the summer vacation, and are not scheduled to return to the city until next week.
