Last Thursday, the Spanish parliament approved the controversial “Trans Law,” a project of the radical left of Podemos and Equality Minister Irene Montero. The law recognizes free self-determination of gender and eliminates the obligation to present a medical report to legally change sex. In order to change sex, it is sufficient for the person concerned to request it in writing and without the need to provide evidence or witnesses.
With regard to minors, the law establishes that the age at which any person can “rectify” the mention of their sex is lowered to 16 years. If minors are “assisted” by their parents or by a “judicial defender,” the age is lowered to 14 years old. This judicial channel is also open to minors between 12 and 14 years of age. Below this age, only a change of name can be made. Irene Montero defended the law, stating that “gender identity is a constitutional right” and that there is no way to give “an inch to reactionaries and transphobia, nor leave the door open to hate speech”.
The response from the Vox parliamentary group came from MP Carla Toscano, in a speech that has provoked a veritable hysterical reaction from the left. Toscano started her speech quoting Chesterton, “the day will come when swords will be drawn to prove that leaves are green”, a good reminder that the laws passed around gender and progressive ideology “force us to turn our backs on reality and penalizes anyone who refuses to do so”.

The Conservative MP pointed out the lack of scientific backing for gender ideology, the concept of gender as a social construct, modifiable at will and subordinated to the desires of the individual. “It is a crazy but tempting proposal. It is reminiscent of the ‘You will be like gods’ of Genesis because it puts in our hands a reality that we believed to be unchangeable. And in doing so, it creates an illusion of freedom”. However true freedom is not built without reality, and more than Gods, all this ideology makes us slaves.
“To do this, you miserably use the tragedy of a few, very few cases of intersex people or people who do not identify with their biological sex, or of gender dysphoria in adolescents, to pass the trans steamroller and impose it on our society”. Toscano noted that society is capable of offering respect and support to these people, but this support cannot be from an ideological perspective, but from a scientific, medical and, above all, from a “truly human perspective.” She also said that this is not about fighting any kind of discrimination, which is already punishable in our legal system, it is about imposing gender ideology and creating privileges: “And within the wild advertising of the law, we come to the most intolerable point of it: The [attack on] children.”
“We don’t want them to be made to experiment with their bodies, we don’t want them to be encouraged to masturbate, we don’t want them to be told they can choose to be boys or girls, we don’t want them to be educated in a way that differs from our beliefs. And to say this is not to be backward or fascist or old-fashioned; to say this is to love our children and to want to maintain their innocence and purity.” Carla Toscano showed what is happening in other countries because of gender propaganda and laws like this one, where more and more teenagers have dysphoria. In the UK the number has increased by 4400% in ten years, prompting a government inquiry. In Sweden, there has been a 1500% increase in cases, particularly in biological women. “Ms Montero, take your dirty hands out of our children”, Toscano said.
The VOX MP stated that legislating according to the wishes or self-perceptions of each person degenerates into fraudulent laws and absurd, unjust and even dangerous situations. “Can you imagine a world where everyone is obliged to treat us as we feel?” she asked. “Today is the day to shout: The grass is green. Boys have penises and girls have vaginas. Sex is binary. We are born male and female. Biology is real. Gender ideology is cancer. This is the most totalitarian and destructive government in the history of democratic Spain. And Vox is the only party that defends Goodness, Truth, and Beauty”, concluded Toscano.
The speech of Carla Toscano provoked an overreaction of violent threats against her on Twitter and social media. “Nazi shit”, “so many cars and none of them run you over”, “sick bitch”, were some of the comments on her speech. Once again, the left demonstrates that under the guise of tolerance and diversity, totalitarianism hides. Yes, Chesterton was right.
