The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had reported that all those vaccinated against COVID-19 could stop wearing masks. However, shortly thereafter, the order was changed for schools.
According to e-mails obtained by Fox News, the CDC’s change in guideline came after the teachers’ union threatened White House officials with harsh criticism.
“The National Education Association sent a draft statement to White House officials that included harsh criticism of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s facemask guideline,” Fox News explained.
“CDC has consistently said, and studies support, that mitigation measures, including to protect the most vulnerable, remain necessary in schools and institutions of higher education — particularly because no elementary or middle school students, and few high school students, have been vaccinated,” the draft statement to be released by the association reads.

After the White House had contact with union members, articulate work began between the National Education Association and the Democratic administration. In fact, the emails also show that the White House and CDC had extensive contact with union leaders.
After conversations, between unionists and the Administration, finally on May 15, CDC updated its facemask guidance to indicate that everyone should wear a mask to school, regardless of vaccination status.
“CDC recommends universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status. Children should return to full-time in-person learning in the fall with layered prevention strategies in place,” the health authority wrote.
