China Threatens Elon Musk: Biting the hand that feeds you

Leer en Español

A China state-run journal issued a warning to Tesla CEO Elon Musk after he shared reporting on the U.S. Department of Energy’s assessment that the worldwide Covid epidemic started in a Wuhan laboratory.

Eunice Yoon of CNBC reported Tuesday morning on the warning from the Global Times’. The outlet cautioned Musk that he risked “breaking the Chinese pot” after responding to tweets claiming that the Covid epidemic began in a Wuhan research center. Which according to Yoon, means something similar to “Biting the hand that feeds you”.

Tesla has a big industrial complex in Shanghai, and China is the electric vehicle manufacturer’s second largest market.

The incident with Musk began after the Department of Energy released a statement that said with “low confidence” that the Covid epidemic originated in a Wuhan laboratory. Also, on another statement, FBI Director Chris Wray said the lab leak theory was most likely true:

“the FBI has for quite some time now assessed that the origins of the pandemic are most likely a potential lab incident in Wuhan.” Said the Official.

Musk replied to a Tweet that talked about the subject on Tuesday with a specific detail that apparently originated the blunt reaction from the CCP media:

According to Yoon, the Chinese Communist Party has been extremely sensitive to the issue, especially as it seeks outside investment after months of zero-Covid lockdowns sparked countrywide demonstrations.
