Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is facing another criminal complaint against him in a misdemeanor sex crime case.
The complaint was filed by an Albany County Police Department investigator, who accuses Cuomo of reaching down a woman’s blouse on December 7, 2020. At issue is the case of Brittany Commisso, 33, who said her boss (Cuomo) groped her breast.
According to information from the Times Union newspaper, unidentified officials said the complaint had been filed “prematurely,” as prosecutors had not made a final decision on whether Cuomo would face charges.
Albany County Police Chief Craig Apple’s office confirmed in a statement that the Albany City Court had issued a criminal summons ordering Cuomo to appear on November 17.
Cuomo’s attorney, Rita Glavin, said there were allegedly “political” reasons behind the complaint and said in a statement that the former governor never assaulted anyone “and Sheriff Apple’s motives in this case are clearly improper.”
“Sheriff Apple did not even tell the district attorney’s office what he was doing. But Apple’s behavior is not surprising considering (1) his August 7 press conference in which he basically declared the governor guilty before conducting an investigation, and (2) his office’s leaking of investigative jury information. This is not professional police work, it’s political,” the lawyer said, according to the Los Angeles Times.
More allegations against Andrew Cuomo
Last October 14, it became known that the former governor is still being pursued by six ongoing investigations.
Cuomo’s Executive Chamber received subpoenas from New York Attorney General Letitia James regarding the governor’s book and COVID priority testing. In addition, it received subpoenas from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office regarding the nursing home case.
The New York State Assembly is keeping the impeachment investigation ongoing, and the New York Joint Commission on Public Ethics is investigating both the priority evidence and the resources used to publish the governor’s book.
It should be remembered that in addition to the allegations of alleged sexual harassment that led to Cuomo’s resignation, there is also the fact that during his tenure the former governor minimized the deaths of the elderly in nursing homes in the state.
The count Cuomo used in his media briefings only included laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 deaths reported through a state system that collects data from hospitals, nursing homes and adult care facilities.
That is, it excluded people who died at home, in hospice, in state prisons or in state-run homes for people living with disabilities.
Critics of Cuomo had accused him of manipulating coronavirus statistics to burnish his image as the leader of a pandemic. In fact, federal prosecutors launched an investigation related to the deaths of nursing home patients.
Prosecutor Letitia James went so far as to claim that Cuomo concealed the true figure and in her report also noted that he pressured the Department of Health to manipulate the actual number of elderly nursing home deaths.
