Congressman Matt Gaetz hinted in an interview with Fox News that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis could run for president in 2024.
During the interview, Gaetz assured that the Biden administration closely follows DeSantis’ management, so he intends to put “Florida’s experience in question”.
“He is a strong presidential candidate in 2024. The Biden team knows that, and that’s why they’re trying to somehow call Florida’s experience into question because they know that, across America, there’s a lot of Florida envy right now,” he said.
The governor has not publicly acknowledged any speculation that he may be preparing for a presidential run in 2024. DeSantis is up for re-election as governor in 2022, where his handling of the pandemic is sure to be the number one focus.
His comments came after Fox interviewed DeSantis on Sunday, and the governor accused President Joe Biden of thinking about travel restrictions to attack Florida for its thriving economy and real estate sector.
Gaetz, who represents Florida’s 1st congressional district, said he is proud of the governor and that “Biden’s people know that, if Donald Trump is not the nominee in 2024, the leader of our movement will be Ron DeSantis.”
