The Republican congressmen from Florida, María Elvira Salazar, Mario Díaz-Balart and Carlos Giménez criticized on Tuesday President Joe Biden’s “betrayal” of the struggle for freedom in Venezuela through his negotiations with the regime of Nicolás Maduro.

In the opinion of the three politicians, the recent talks carried out by representatives of the White House in Caracas are also a blow to the “national security” of the United States, since, they recalled, the United States wants to bring “Maduro and his thugs” to justice in this country.

According to the White House, the negotiations were intended to discuss issues such as “energy security” after oil and gas prices skyrocketed due to high inflation and also because of the recent invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

For the Floridian congressmen, a state where the largest Venezuelan community in the US lives to the south, oil was nothing more than an excuse for the Democratic Administration to get closer to Maduro who, they stressed, paradoxically, the United States does not recognize as the legitimate president of his country and wants to try him for “crimes against humanity.”

“This Administration is dying to find an excuse to make friends again with people who have destroyed their country in the last 20 years,” said Salazar.

Díaz-Balart went further and pointed out that Biden is determined to help “all anti-American dictators” in the world, a group in which he also included Iran.

“Biden is trying to sell Venezuela’s future, condemn the people of Venezuela to a dictatorship,” he said. “Venezuela’s freedom is non-negotiable.”

The three congressmen indicated that they are working to introduce a bipartisan bill so that these negotiations cannot proceed, although Diaz-Balart indicated that it will be complicated given the Democratic majority in the House of Representatives and federal Senate.

They also urged Biden to promote the extraction of gas and oil in the country to achieve energy independence and not have to depend on countries such as Venezuela and Russia, since, as Congressman Gimenez pointed out, the United States has the capacity to achieve it and also export to other nations of the world.

Diaz-Balart said that “either in the Biden administration they are idiots or they are betraying the cause of freedom in Venezuela.”

“The only one that benefits is the Maduro regime,” the congressman insisted.
