While the coronavirus pandemic advanced in the United States, state and local authorities were devising measures to counter the disease; however, while announcing more and more restrictions, they were also violating their own regulations.
Democrats were asking people to stay home while leaders such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi went to her hairdresser in September, and California Governor Gavin Newsom and San Francisco Mayor London Breed dined at a fancy winery while forbidding their citizens to do the same.
Both Democratic authorities violated two measures: meeting with people from three different households and only outdoor eating in restaurants or bars. They also ignored recommendations to wear masks or maintain social distancing.
A Fox News report condensed the most controversial restrictions in the midst of the pandemic; measures that their own authorities decided to ignore or that failed to solve the real problem.
While beauty salons and retailers were not open to customers in the Golden State, authorities allowed stores like Target and Walmart to remain open even though they sold the same items as the smaller stores. The most paradoxical thing was that the massive lockdowns instead of stopping the contagion caused hundreds of people to have fewer places to go to do their shopping.
Business struggle against Democrat authorities
Because of the Democrats’ radical measures, more than 10,000 restaurants have closed their doors across the country.
“Industries collapsed this year in the midst of chaos and restaurants found themselves at war with their own governments,” says Fox News.
Recently in Minnesota, for example, officials notified restaurants that they will face a 60-day liquor license suspension after violating Democratic Gov. Waltz restrictions.
In New York something similar happened when Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo, reinstated the prohibition on dining indoor in restaurants; a measure that left restaurants in a tough position.
Cuomo gave the order despite the opposition of the restaurant sector, which warned that there would be personnel layoffs during the Christmas season; and it also happened when the winter weather has started to arrive in the city and outdoor tables will be much less popular, considering the cold winds and eventual snowfalls.
“The rules for killing New York restaurants are meaningless, and it keeps getting worse,” said New York Post columnist Karol Markowicz in her article, who explained point by point why the measures taken by Governor Andrew Cuomo are absurd.
“Takeout orders can only be placed by email or phone. The most surprising thing is that customers who dine in the outdoor seating area of a restaurant cannot use the indoor bathroom,” she explained. “Destroying the restaurant industry will not stop the spread of the coronavirus, and it never will.”
Markowicz’s writing coincides with a report by the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER) that notes that “lockdowns do not control the coronavirus.”
In the document, the agency showed that several studies indicate that “there is no relationship between the lockdowns and the control of the virus.
“The virus will do what viruses do, as always in the history of infectious diseases. We have extremely limited control over them, and what we have is linked to time and place. Fear, panic, and coercion are not ideal strategies for controlling viruses. Medical intelligence and therapeutics work much better,” the report states.
