Marc Elias is a Democratic Party election lawyer who boasts of having defeated Trump in more than 60 litigations after the 2020 election. Elias was one of the main lawyers of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in 2016, and after the FBI raid on the residence of former President Donald Trump “Mar-a-Lago”, he explains that the Republican could be disqualified to run again for the White House in 2024.

The FBI raid is due to a warrant to search the property for classified documents allegedly taken by the former president from the White House when he left office.

However, Elias on his Twitter account highlighted that there is something the media has overlooked, and cited Title 18 U.S. Code Section 2071. “Whoever, having the custody of any such record, proceeding, map, book, document, paper, or other thing, willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, falsifies, or destroys the same, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both; and shall forfeit his office and be disqualified from holding any office under the United States. As used in this subsection, the term ‘office’ does not include the office held by any person as a retired officer of the Armed Forces of the United States,” the aforementioned title reads.

In this regard, Elias asserted, “The media is missing the really, really big reason why the raid today is a potential blockbuster in American politics.”

The Presidential Records Act of 1978 requires presidential administrations to retain certain documents, and according to the National Archives, the presidential records in the boxes removed from Mar-a-Lago earlier this year include documents classified for national security reasons.

From the Democratic Party lawyer’s assertions, one could only deduce that the Mar-a-Lago break-in, above all else, has a rather marked political agenda, and that is to prevent former President Donald Trump from being able to run again in 2024 for the Presidency.
