Despite the fact that the Democratic Party was the driving force behind “Defund the Police”, now the White House accuses the Republicans of wanting to defund the police.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said Monday, June 28, that Republicans were the driving force behind the measure to defund the police on the grounds that they voted against Joe Biden’s $1.9 billion proposal in March.

However, Psaki seems to forget that it was the same Democrats who called for cutting resources to police forces after accusing them of being “racist”.

It was in June 2020 when African-American members of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Democratic Party introduced the bill to defund the police after the murder of George Floyd.

Likewise Maya Wiley, Democratic candidate for Mayor of New York City, who is endorsed by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has also come out in favor of defunding the police.

However, the “Defund the Police” call has not caught on even among Democrats. In fact, in the New York City mayoral primary, the front-runner is Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, a former city police officer.

The Daily Caller recalls a June 2020 Siena College poll, which found that 60% of New Yorkers disagreed with taking funding away from the police. According to the outlet the move is so “unpopular” with voters that Democrats now claim Republicans are the ones really pushing it.

“So look, Republicans are very good at staying on the talking points about who says take funding away from police, but the truth is they took funding away from police, we fund crime intervention and a lot of other things,” Biden adviser Cedric Richmond told Fox News.

According to a Fox News poll released May 26 and conducted May 22-25, most people trust law enforcement, so Democrats now appear to be leaning in favor of holding Republicans accountable for what was really an initiative of the progressive wing of their own party.
