Ron DeSantis, the governor who has fought to normalize his state in the face of pandemic restrictions, today took another step to prevent Floridians from having their economy adversely affected.

DeSantis signed an executive order Wednesday canceling coronavirus-related fines imposed by local governments during the pandemic.

De Santis’ announcements

“I hereby remit fines imposed between March 1, 2020 and March 10, 2021 by any political subdivision in Florida related to local government COVID-19 restrictions,” the order reads.

In a more general sense, the measure announces that all fines imposed on individuals and businesses by local governments in Florida since March 2020 are remitted.

However, the policy does not cancel fines imposed on assisted living facilities, hospitals or health care providers.

What is the current state of Florida?

DeSantis revealed that about 70% of seniors in Palm Beach County have already been vaccinated. In fact, about three million seniors in Florida have already received the vaccine.

The efficiency in the management of the pandemic and its path to normalcy are tangible in the governor’s announcements. The Republican added that demand from seniors seeking to receive the vaccine continues to fall steadily.

With the increased vaccine supply, DeSantis said the state could reduce age requirements sooner than expected.

Since last year, the governor proposed a completely different and much less restrictive model. DeSantis assured in August of last year that after thorough reviews, the most risky attitudes should be reduced as much as possible and the most basic protections should be reinforced so that life in Florida could be as normal as possible.

“Had we shut down the state, we would have lost 300,000 to 400,000 more jobs,” DeSantis said. “We will never do these lockdowns again,” he said.
