Joe Biden’s Administration is considering “isolating” Florida by air; a situation that the state’s Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, has described as “absurd and unfair”.
DeSantis: “an attack on the people of Florida”
In DeSantis’ view, any measure restricting travel would be an “attack on the people of Florida” and he vowed that he will not stand idly by if such a decision is ultimately made.
“The recent report that the Biden Administration is considering restricting travel by Floridians is completely absurd, especially when Biden allows illegal aliens to cross our southern border. We will not allow Floridians to be unfairly targeted for political purposes,” DeSantis said.
According to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in a recent interview, the Biden administration is studying a rule to require passengers on domestic flights to present a negative COVID-19 test.
According to Telemundo51 a White House official said that the Biden Administration has several options on the table, but so far has not made any decisions.
Senator Marco Rubio pre-empted a possible announcement of restrictions and sent a letter to President Biden, saying, “banning travel to and from Florida would be overbearing, outrageous and without scientific basis.”
Some airlines agree with Rubio and DeSantis because they are concerned that the country does not have sufficient testing capacity, and therefore, the measure would be another economic blow to an industry that is slowly beginning to take off on the road to recovery.
