Recent speeches by New York Governor, Kathy Hochul, evidence her authoritarian drift by inviting her dissidents to move to Florida. Republican Ron DeSantis responded to the governor’s statements.
“The corrupt, far-left, pro-criminal Andrew Cuomo 2.0, aka Kathy Hochul —recently declared that Lee Zeldin was no longer a New Yorker because he disagrees with her radical policies. Hochul demanded that Lee get on a bus and move to Florida,” a recent fundraising speech by the Republican governor says.
“Folks are fleeing a place where politicians like Hochul attack the wallets, safety, freedom, and kids’ education of the very people she is supposed to represent,” DeSantis adds in the message.
Hochul’s attacks on DeSantis are not recent. In April, the New York governor criticized him for smiling as he signed a law banning abortion for 15 weeks. She also claims that DeSantis has been “overrated” while speaking impromptu at an August 10th event to commemorate the Holocaust.
DeSantis responds and endorses Lee Zeldin
Florida Governor and re-election candidate Ron DeSantis decided to respond to Hochul and show how New York seeks to isolate those who think differently.
“You have the governor of New York saying all Republicans need to get on a bus and leave the state and come to Florida,” he told reporters at a press conference.
Lee Zeldin is the Republican candidate aiming to beat Hochul for New York governor and has been labeled by Democrats as “too extremist” for the city.
However, Republican leaders such as DeSantis and former President Donald Trump have helped Zeldin by closing a big fundraising gap against Hochul, who reported having $11.7 million compared to $1.57 million for Zeldin in mid-July.
“Despite Hochul’s demands, Lee is not going anywhere. He’s standing his ground to fight for New York, FIRE Kathy Hochul, and Save New York before it’s gone for good!” DeSantis stated.
